Over the past months, we have worked hard to achieve CSA Standards for our Poly Ball Septic Tanks and we are proud to announce that we have finally been approved. To obtain approval, we had to put our tanks through vigorous testing which included loading 29,000 lbs on top. We had to achieve that by loading 16 bags of sand combined with steel beams on top. (29,000 lbs is the equivalent of 6 pick-up trucks or 12 ft of normal earth cover). Watch our video below of our weight test.

We built these tanks with quality and durability in mind and achieving CSA Standards is another way we give you value for the investment you make when you purchase a septic tank by Westland Plastics.

In 2009 when new regulations were announced on Septic Fields and Onsite Waste Management Systems, Manitoba Conservation conducted a number of inspections in West St. Paul near the Red River.  Of the 167 properties examined, 35% of the septic systems were ‘non-compliant’.   25% of the tanks were found to be illegally dumping laundry water into the ditch while 10% were found to be malfunctioning.

In the Grindstone/Hecla area, 11% of the 542 cottage septic systems were malfunctioning.  Many of the septic systems were leaking greywater directly into the ground.

Is your tank working properly?  When was the last time you had your septic serviced or pumped?  Does your tank need to be replaced?  When considering a replacement, make sure you choose a reputable installer that knows your area to make sure your tank is installed for the earthen conditions your area creates.  Any work done has to be done by Manitoba Certified Installers.

Polyethylene is widely used in North America for the construction of septic tanks.  To tailor the tanks specifically for Manitoba and our unique requirements, Westland Plastics has created the Poly Ball Septic Tank – a tank that is highly durable and rugged, developed especially for deep ground burial applications.

The tank is a 78” sphere with a 30” manhole – large enough for easy access for maintenance.  The tanks are moulded in one piece.  Having no seams will further prevent any unwanted leakage or seepage from the tank.  Able to withstand 29,000 lbs (click here to read more about our CSA testing process), the tanks will not crack or break as you push, pull or drag them in place for installation.  Installation is simple, no heavy equipment is required for hauling or installing these tanks and they can be shipped with the manhole upright or lying down.  A robust and flexible 4” inlet grommet creates a lifelong in-ground seal – which means these tanks will outlast your homes or cottages.

We are in the final stages of obtaining our CSA approval for our Poly Ball Septic Tanks – which means we have put our tanks to the test to meet the high standard requirements.   Our tanks are built for deep burial applications and are made to withstand incredible weight.  For rural home or cottage owners, this will be important if you haul heavy equipment on top of your septic fields or lawns.  As well, for installation purposes, you will not have to worry as the tanks are being pushed, pulled or dragged into place.  Our Poly Ball Septic Tanks are extremely rugged and durable – they will not break, even if you try breaking them!

To meet CSA requirements, we placed our Poly Ball tanks in a simple bed of sand with no supporting beams.   29,000 lbs were loaded on top of the tank, consisting of 16 bags of sand and steel frames above our tank.  (29,000 lbs is the equivalent of 6 pickup trucks or 12 ft of normal earth cover).  Passed and approved, our Poly Ball Septic Tank will be able to handle any of your installations.

In an ongoing effort to protect Manitoba’s waters, new regulations were put into place regarding Onsite Wastewater Management Systems in The Environment Act.  If you are a rural home or cottage owner, especially in the Red River Corridor Designated Area, these new regulations will affect you.  Any discharge of sewage, greywater or wastewater run-off has to be compliant with the new regulations – and that requires a septic system that is fully functional and compliant with Manitoban regulations.

The Westland Plastics Poly Ball Septic Tank is fully compliant with Manitoban and Saskatchewan regulations for sized 4 bedroom homes.  Made of Polyethylene plastics, the tanks are moulded as one piece. That means there will be no seams, no leaks and no seepage.   Our tanks are fully compliant to Manitoba regulations so you don’t have to worry about buying and replacing a tank that does not meet Manitoban requirements.

Are you looking for a lightweight septic or holding tank that will stand up to harsh conditions and last for the life of your home or cottage? You may be looking at plastic and fibreglass and wondering which will give you more value for your money.

Fibreglass was once considered a good option for septic tanks, but experts now know that unlike plastic, fibreglass will dry out and become quite fragile. And once a single crack forms, you have no choice but to replace the tank.

The other lightweight option, plastic polyethylene, gives you all the advantages of fibreglass with none of the negatives. These tanks won’t crack, won’t corrode, and are as strong as tanks made of much heavier materials. Here are a few more reasons why polyethylene is superior to fiberglass.

You won’t need heavy equipment to install these tanks. When you buy a plastic septic tank, you can move it into place with just two people. And if you need to install the tank in a more inaccessible location, you won’t need big trucks or special lifting equipment. Polyethylene tanks, manholes and covers are extremely rugged and durable allowing you to push, pull or drag them in place and not have to worry about cracking anything while you do. Unlike fibreglass with brittle manholes and covers.

Plastic tanks last for years and years with little maintenance. Are you looking for a septic tank solution that won’t require a lot of time and money to maintain? Polyethylene tanks never rust, never corrode, and won’t deteriorate when exposed to sewage gases. The plastic material is non-porous, so any underground root systems won’t penetrate or crack the tanks.

How about one of the longest warranties in the industry? Our polyethylene tanks sport a 5-year manufacturers guarantee against almost any condition you can throw at them. In many cases, our customers report lifespans that greatly exceed the life of the warranty.

Are you ready to invest in one of the strongest and most long-lasting septic tanks available today?

Are you in the market for a new or replacement septic or holding tank? You may have narrowed your choices to plastic and concrete.

Wouldn’t it be great to buy a tank and not have to worry about it for the life of your home or cottage? You probably have plenty of other things that keep you up at night, but selecting a septic tank shouldn’t be one of them. Consider these facts about the longevity of polyethylene plastic.

No cracking, no rust or corrosion, no leaks. Plastic tanks are 100 percent free of corrosion and rust. And polyethylene won’t be affected by sewage gases and acids in the soil. Even though concrete doesn’t rust on its own, close proximity to metals can cause deterioration. Constant exposure to moisture (groundwater), harsh chemicals (bleach, drain cleaners), and salts will weaken concrete and lead to cracks which cannot be repaired.

Installation is a breeze. You probably know that a plastic tank is much lighter than one made of concrete. And that weight savings translates into a simpler tank installation. Your new tank can be transported to the site much more easily and for less money. And those heavy equipment costs will be a thing of the past.

How much is your peace of mind worth? If damage occurs (while very unlikely) a plastic tank can be repaired. Once the concrete tank sustains damage, such as root penetration, the only option is a replacement tank. That’s why you typically can’t get a warranty longer than one year for a concrete tank. Our polyethylene tanks carry a 5-year guarantee, but you’ll find they almost always last much longer.

Once you buy a tank, you want to install it and forget about it. That’s what you’ll get with polyethylene.

Low-profile slide-in polyethylene tanks can be used for a variety of tasks from septic and holding tanks to storage of potable water. And they fit perfectly under or beside campers or trailers.

The largest capacity tank (holding a little over 1700 gallons) stands 40 inches high while the 250 gallon tank rises just 15 inches. These dimensions ensure that you can find a solution even when space is tight.

And these plastic tanks are lightweight, easily moved from place to place without heavy equipment, and virtually indestructible. Here’s a little more information about these long-lasting storage gems.

Easily transport filled tanks without worrying about spillage. The flat bottom and low-profile of these plastic tanks makes them the perfect choice when you need to haul them from place to place. They won’t sway back and forth or up and down. And you won’t have any nasty spills to clean up.

High strength, low weight. When you look at these tanks, you’ll see molded ribs across the top, sides and bottom. These are designed to maintain the structural integrity of the tank and give it tremendous strength when compressed from any direction. And the tanks can be moved easily by two people.

Safe for potable water storage. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States has approved this high-quality polyethylene for storing drinking water. It’s a great option when you want to keep a large quantity of water safe.

Easy access for filling and cleaning. A large diameter (over 15 inches) screw-in lid gives you plenty of room when you need to access the contents of the tank. And you can choose from multiple lid locations.

You won’t find a stronger, more durable, lightweight tank that’s perfect for your RV park.
