In such a dynamic and demanding industry, our commitment to quality is our guiding principle. Our company first started in 1981 and much has changed since then. We see it around us all the time – improved technology, refined techniques and changing demands has shown us that continuous improvement is integral to our growth and success.

Over the years, we’ve adopted other useful principles to help us improve our abilities and capabilities. Lean Manufacturing is one of the principles we implemented at our 40,000 sq. ft. Winnipeg manufacturing facility. Put simply, lean manufacturing is the idea of “using less of everything to complete the same task”.

Lean Manufacturing is not only an operations principle; it is a way of operating and a corporate culture – that is why earlier this year, we implemented a “Lean Manufacturing Training Day” off site at the Shriners Lodge Winnipeg facilities. We closed our plant for the day and all 3 shifts so all of our staff could participate in training workshops and discuss the ways that our processes could further be improved for the benefit of all our customers. We had many good ideas brought forward by members of our team at every level – further confirming our belief that some of the best ideas can come from the very bottom by the people who do the work on a daily basis.

Westland Plastics Introduces New 23×30 Octagon Sump Pit Tank

Westland Plastics is proud to announce the addition of a new product to our line of sump pit tank offerings. Over the past few years, we found there was a need for a mid-sized octagon sump pit tank. Our current line offers 3 sizes including a 18×30 octagon sump tank, a 30×30 octagon sump pit tank and finally, a 23×30 sump pit tank that is round in shape.

We now offer a fourth sump pit tank that is 23×30 in dimensions that is octagon in shape. The octagon shape maximizes the tanks capacity while minimizing the space required. The tank will still be made from our high-grade polyethylene plastic and will come with stainless steel hardware with a large flange to lock the tank into the concrete. The lid features a neoprene gasket, grommet for the electrical power cords and a 1.5” opening for the discharge pipe.

Westland Plastics Acquires New Sump Pit Molds

We are pleased to announce that we have successfully acquired a competitor’s sump pit mold for a 23×30 octagon sump pit tank. This latest acquisition has given us the ability to expand on our line of sump pit tanks and have made us one of the largest sump pit tank manufacturers in western Canada! We now offer 4 sump pit tanks – to fit whatever requirements you may have. This new product size will be made to the same level of quality as our other tanks.

Westland Plastics Holding Tanks for Cottage Use

With Spring around the corner, there are many things cottage owners in Manitoba should consider. With an exceptionally wet winter with heavy snows, cottage owners should consider the risk of flooding. Westland Plastics manufactures a complete line of polyethylene recycling bins, recycling containers, and waste receptacles. We have the ability to customize our polyethylene recycling bins to the colour of your choice. This has been a useful feature in the waste management industry as different colours can indicate the type of waste the bins are meant for and encourage recycling. Best practices within the environmental and waste industry uses common colour codes – recycling bins will typically be in blue, plastic bag collection will be in forest green, etc. This is to encourage and reinforce recycling behaviour.

We are looking forward to the Onsite Wastewater Systems Installers of Manitoba (OWSIM) Annual Trade Show and AGM taking place March 7^th and 8^th, 2013. This annual event is hosted by the OWSIM, an association of certified installers of onsite wastewater management systems in Manitoba. It is the OWSIM’s mandate to maintain a high level of ethics and standards regarding onsite wastewater systems installations in this province and to ensure a strong commitment to protecting the environment.

Due to the success of last year’s show, this year’s event has been expanded to 2 days and will be hosted at the CanadInns Garden City location again. The conference and tradeshow will be held from 9:00 – 5:00pm on March 7^th and 8^th, 2013.

The OWSIM will also be running a GPS Training course the afternoon before the trade show event. There is no cost involved. Both OWSIM members and non-members who are associated with onsite waste management are welcome to join. The course will be held from 2:30 – 5:30 at CanadInns Garden City. Westland Plastics Supplying 100 of Our 300-Gallon Recycle Bins to the City of Fargo

Westland Plastics has contracted with the City of Fargo, North Dakota to supply the municipality 100 of our 300-gallon recycle bins. In a move to reduce expenses while providing recycling benefits to the public, the City of Fargo will distribute Westland recycle bins for collections to drop-off sites and to its citizens.
